Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), strongly criticized the justice system’s failure. He also described Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan as part of a London “agreement.”
In a statement released through his family on October 24 and later tweeted from the official PTI account, the former prime minister Imran Khan, who was removed from power through a parliamentary vote last year, said that what’s happening today is a complete disrespect for the law.
He went on to say, “My fellow Pakistanis, in recent days, we have seen a complete disregard for the law. What’s unfolding is not just a part of a London ‘plan,’ but it’s actually a formal agreement made in London between a person who ran away and committed crimes and the people who helped him.”
This statement was made six days after Nawaz Sharif’s return from four years of self-imposed exile in London on October 21. Before his return, Nawaz Sharif was granted protection in two corruption cases, and arrest warrants in another case were put on hold, making his return easier.
Expressing his dissatisfaction with the relief given to the PML-N leader, Khan said, “The only way a person convicted of a crime can come back to politics without any consequences is by damaging important government organizations. This is why we are seeing a big problem with our justice system.”
Imran Khan also mentioned, “My fellow Pakistanis, please remember that all the cases against me are completely false and driven by political motives. They were made up to keep me in jail until after the elections or even longer. But the increasing political awareness and resistance to hidden plots in my country worry them.”

Imran Khan raised concerns about the possibility of being harmed in jail, referring to previous attempts on his life. However, he encouraged the people to keep up their fight, and he mentioned that the party leaders have been advised to start their election campaigns.
In a recent development favoring Nawaz Sharif, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) reinstated his appeals against the convictions in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia cases, giving him a chance to challenge the sentences he received in these corruption cases.
On October 24, Nawaz Sharif’s bail in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia cases was extended until October 26, with no objections from the anti-corruption watchdog.
Additionally, the Punjab government approved the suspension of Nawaz’s sentence in the Al-Azizia case on the same day.
Nawaz Sharif had received a 10-year jail sentence in the Avenfield properties corruption case in 2018 and a one-year sentence for not cooperating with the anti-graft watchdog. In the Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption case, he was sentenced to seven years in jail in 2018.
Nawaz was released from jail in March 2019 and traveled to London for medical treatment in November 2019. However, he was declared a proclaimed offender in both cases in December 2020. The protective bail granted by the IHC in both corruption cases allowed his return to the country.
