The Islamabad High Court has given an order to move the detained Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan, who is involved in a cipher case, to Adiala Jail.
The Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, Aamir Farooq, looked into the request made by the PTI Chairman regarding his prison arrangement.
During the hearing, the Chief Justice questioned why the PTI Chairman, who is an under-trial prisoner in the cipher case, is being held in Attock Jail instead of Adiala Jail, where all under-trial prisoners from Islamabad are supposed to be kept.
Justice Amir Farooq mentioned that he was previously held in Attock Jail for the Tosha Khana case, but that sentence has been suspended. He inquired whether there were plans to transfer him to Rahim Yar Khan, and sought a response from Additional Attorney General Manoor Iqbal Dogul.
The Chief Justice of Islamabad stressed that, as per the law, under-trial prisoners from Islamabad should be in Adiala Jail, and thus, the PTI Chairman should be relocated there.
Justice Amir Farooq noted that he had been informed that AB and C classes were available in the jail now.
Imran Khan Lawyer
Imran Khan’s lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar, stated that there are normal and better-class accommodations in jail, and the PTI Chairman is entitled to a better class. Justice Amir Farooq emphasized that it is established that the PTI Chairman should receive what he is entitled to under the jail rules, and none of his rights should be denied.
It’s worth noting that the PTI Chairman had been sentenced to three years in prison on August 5, 2023, in the Tosha Khana case and was arrested in Lahore before being sent to Attock Jail. There was also an arrest made in the cipher case.
Although the Islamabad High Court had suspended the sentence in the Tosha Khana case, his release was not possible due to his arrest in the cipher case.
