The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts that after October 17, the country might experience a winter wave due to snowfall in the mountains and rain in various regions.
According to the PMD, a weather system is expected to enter the upper parts of the country on the evening of October 13, spreading to the upper and central regions by the night of October 14. This will result in intermittent rain and thunderstorms in the upper areas, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, and more. These weather conditions are expected to persist from the evening of October 13 until October 17. Similar conditions are anticipated in Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.
In specific areas, such as Kashmir’s Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Gilgit Baltistan’s Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, and others, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected during this winter wave period. Various regions, including Islamabad, Potohar, Murree, and Lahore, will also experience similar weather from October 13 to 17. From October 16 to 18, Layyah, Bhakkar, and other areas are likely to receive rain and thunderstorms.
Snowfall in the high mountains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan, as well as isolated hailstorms in the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, are also anticipated.
For regions in Sindh and Balochistan, rain and thunderstorms are expected in places like Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Quetta, and others on October 17 and 18.
These winter wave weather conditions may lead to a significant drop in temperatures. Moreover, there is a possibility of increased water flow in local streams and potential landslides in some vulnerable areas. Heavy rain might cause urban flooding in Rawalpindi and Lahore on October 15 and 16.
The PMD advises farmers to adjust their crop activities accordingly, and tourists and travelers are encouraged to exercise caution during this forecasted period.
