In Lahore, Sui Northern Gas has implemented additional monthly fixed charges amounting to billions of rupees for consumers. According to reports, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has discreetly permitted the recovery of these fixed charges, which have been incorporated into the gas bills issued in November.
Sources indicate that protected consumers using 0.9 hectares of gas will now be subject to monthly fixed charges of Rs 400, while non-protected consumers utilizing up to 1.5 hectares will face an additional bill of Rs 1,000.
Officials from Sui Northern Gas have stated that these monthly fixed charges have been introduced with the government’s approval, acknowledging that it poses a burden on consumers but asserting that they are compelled to implement it.
Sui Gas officials have also mentioned that consumers have the option to contest these fixed charges in the High Court. The total estimate for these charges is expected to range between Rs 60 to 70 billion annually.
