Due to a noticeable drop in temperature, the Sindh government announced a change in school timings on Friday. According to a notification from the Sindh Education and Literacy Department, all private and government schools in the province will now start operating from 8:30 am onwards.
This decision is in response to the current severe cold wave in the province, as mentioned in the notification. The adjusted timings will be in effect until January 31, 2024.
The notification follows the resumption of classes in schools across Sindh on January 1 after a 10-day winter vacation that began on December 22, 2023.
In addition, the new academic year in public and private schools in Sindh is set to start on April 15, 2024, and in colleges on August 1, 2024.
Notably, Sindh is not the only province dealing with severe cold; the Punjab government, due to harsh weather conditions, has extended the winter holidays for public and private educational institutions in Punjab until January 9. Schools in Punjab are scheduled to reopen on January 10, with strict rules about wearing face masks on school premises.
