Different Cities Protests against privatization of schools

Lahore

When teachers in Lahore protested because they didn’t like the limited retirement benefits, the Punjab government arrested many of them.

Bhakkar

In Bhakkar, teacher groups have been boycotting education for nine days. Some other groups, like social organizations, are supporting their protest against privatization of schools. The teacher union says they will keep protesting until their demands are met.

Dunyapur

In Dunyapur, teachers have been boycotting education for nine days too. Government schools and offices are locked, and schools are empty. The leader of the provincial teacher union, Malik Sajjad Akhtar Awan, says they’ll continue their strike by locking offices and not working until their demands are met.

Faisalabad

In Faisalabad, teachers are also protesting against the privatization of schools. Students are joining teachers in the protest.

The General Secretary of the Punjab Teachers Union, Rana Liaquat, says they tried to talk to the government, but it didn’t work. The government doesn’t want to listen to the teachers and other government workers. Rana Liaquat says they’ll keep protesting until the issues with getting money for leave and retirement benefits are solved. He also wants the government to make the promotion plan regular for teachers and contract workers and bring back the retirement benefits.

Rana Liaquat adds that this problem isn’t just for teachers; it affects 42 different departments, and other government workers will support the protest.
