In South Africa, just before the new year, they announced a big drop in prices for petrol and diesel.
People in South Africa might see lower fuel prices in the New Year, with reductions in petrol and diesel prices announced on Wednesday.
The cost of Octane 93 and Octane 95 will go down by 62 cents and 76 cents per liter, respectively. Diesel prices will see a decrease ranging from R1.18 to R1.26 per liter, and the price of paraffin will also drop by 93 cents.
The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy explained that the decision to lower prices is because crude oil prices have fallen from $82.62 to $77.35.
A civil society group welcomed the lower prices, and President Wason Reddy mentioned that any reduction in fuel prices is good news. However, he also highlighted the need to consider how politicians in South Africa have misused the system, leading to the public still paying high petrol prices.
