Namira Salim message before Flight

Before her flight, she shared on social media, “I’m proud to carry our country’s flag into space, God willing, on October 6.”

She will be traveling with Trevor Beattie, who is a British advertising expert, and Ron Rosano, who teaches astronomy in the United States. Beth Moses, the main astronaut instructor at Virgin Galactic, will also be with them.

Virgin Galactic recently announced that they postponed their space tourism flight by one day, to Friday, October 6th.

Namira is part of Virgin Galactic’s Galactic 04 mission in 2023. She’s one of the three passengers who paid to go into space and return on Virgin Galactic’s VSS Unity spaceplane.

The VSS Unity will launch from Spaceport America in New Mexico. During the flight, they’ll experience a few minutes of floating in space before coming back to Earth. They won’t go all the way into orbit, but they’ll get to see the Earth’s curve against the space background.

The VMS Eve, piloted by Pakistani-Canadian Jameel Janjua, will take the trio into space. Janjua is an experienced pilot with over 4,000 hours of flying time in more than 45 vehicles. After the mission, both planes will return to Spaceport America.

Namira is being congratulated by Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar ul Haq Kakar for becoming the first woman from Pakistan to go to space. Kakar wrote on his social media account, “Pakistani women are making the whole nation proud with their achievements in various fields.”

Back in 2006, Salim was one of the first 100 people to buy a ticket from Virgin Galactic for $200,000. Over time, the price for her trip went up to $450,000.

Namira is quite an adventurer. She made history by being the first Pakistani to go to the North Pole in April 2007 and the South Pole in January 2008.
