Pakistan made the Haj operations easier for pilgrims by implementing digitalization.

In Islamabad, Pakistan, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications has introduced digitalization for Haj operations. A mobile app developed by the National Information Technology Board (NITB) was launched to assist pilgrims, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation efforts directed by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).

During the launch, Dr. Umar Saif, the Caretaker Minister for IT, and Aneeq Ahmed, the interim Minister for Religious Affairs, unveiled the app. Dr. Saif highlighted key features of the app, emphasizing that it allows pilgrims to register using a one-time password (OTP) received via SMS. Pilgrims will receive a unique ID, consisting of their CNIC and application number.

The app enables users to update personal information, view real-time Haj application statuses, access group details, training schedules, flight information, and accommodation details in Makah and Madina. Pilgrims can also check Haj dues and refund statuses, submit complaints, requests, and inquiries, and manage them efficiently through the app.

Dr. Saif noted that the application is multilingual, offering language options such as English and Urdu, with the potential to add more languages. Additionally, the app features an offline maps function for choosing the shortest route to destinations, location sharing, and the ability to add multiple destinations.

Minister for Religious Affairs Ahmed commended the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of IT and NITB, emphasizing the need to upgrade existing systems related to Haj operations and integrate technology into daily affairs. He expressed confidence that the app, serving as a centralized platform, will digitally streamline the entire process for Haj 2024, enhancing the experience for pilgrims and providing easy access to essential information and services.
