The price of petrol will be effective from midnight on November 16 and will remain in force until November 30.

According to a statement from the Finance Division, the rates for petroleum products have been decreased by as much as Rs9.01 based on the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority.

Specifically, the per-liter price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has been reduced by Rs6.47, while the prices for kerosene oil and light diesel oil have been lowered by Rs6.05 and Rs9.01, respectively.

The caretaker government decided to cut fuel prices, breaking a month-long pattern of keeping them unchanged during the two fortnightly reviews.

Notably, the interim government is not imposing any general sales tax (GST) on petroleum products, and the petroleum levy (PL) rate on petrol and diesel stands at Rs60 per liter.

On October 16, the government had previously reduced the petrol price by Rs40 per liter and HSD by Rs15 per liter.

The reduction in diesel prices, widely utilized in transportation and agriculture, is expected to mitigate inflationary pressures and provide relief to farmers, especially during the ongoing crop-harvesting season.
