Nepra has raised the electricity prices by Rs4.12 per unit for January.

In January 2024, electricity prices for consumers will go up by Rs4.12 per unit, as the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) increased the power price due to monthly fuel adjustments.

However, this hike won’t affect lifeline and K Electric customers. NEPRA had previously approved a Rs2.87 per unit increase for Karachi.

The Caretaker Federal Minister for Energy Power and Petroleum, Muhammad Ali, mentioned plans to reduce electricity tariffs for industries, aiming to support the sector and address the subsidy issue.

The government also aims to tackle circular debt and lower urea prices during the caretaker period. Ali highlighted the caretaker government’s efforts to provide a roadmap for reducing capacity payments and urea prices.
