Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar praised the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) for their efforts in predicting and mitigating natural disasters in Pakistan. During his NEOC visit, Prime Minister Kakar, with Federal Ministers Jalil Abbas Jilani and Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, received insights on disaster preparedness and rehabilitation proposals.
Chairman of NDMA, Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, highlighted the two-month forecast for natural calamities and strategies to reduce losses. COP-28 discussions included Pakistan’s plan to share experiences and address climate change’s adverse effects. Pakistan, among the most affected by climate change, faces glacier recession, floods, avalanches, landslides, and wildfires.
NDMA’s innovative methods, like mobile disaster vehicles and satellite monitoring, were discussed. The organization collaborates with provinces, sharing information to minimize natural calamity impacts. The meeting addressed climate change’s impact on agriculture, the economy, and communication infrastructure.
Acknowledging NDMA and NEOC’s initiatives, Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar directed NDMA to work with provincial disaster management authorities on a national strategy. Emphasizing global expertise use, he stressed sharing experiences at COP-28. The Prime Minister applauded NDMA and NEOC for proactive disaster management. During his NEOC visit, he engaged with officers, youth, and experts on these critical issues.
