The Lahore High Court (LHC) has made a significant decision to address the issue of air pollution in lahore. A directive has been issued to cease all commercial activities by 10 pm.
Justice Shahid Karim of the LHC issued a written order in response to petitions filed by citizens, including Haroon Farooq.
The court, in this order, instructed the Lahore capital city police officer to enforce the directive of halting commercial activities by 10 pm.
The judge specified in the written order that, to combat smog, the chief minister’s secretary should instruct the CCPO to take measures for smog control.
Furthermore, the Lahore administration and the government are directed in the same order to issue a notification regarding commercial activities.
The court recommended issuing a notification for private institutions, including banks, to implement a two-day work-from-home policy each week.
Furthermore, the court mandated the director general of the environment to seal industrial units that had been de-sealed due to pollution. Action was also ordered against the officials from the environment department who had de-sealed these units. A report on the sealing of factories is requested for the next hearing.
In response to the deteriorating air quality and the prevalence of smog in Lahore and other districts of Punjab, caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced the closure of schools, colleges, and all educational institutes in 10 districts of the province on Fridays and Saturdays.
