The government introduces a plan for people to pay for iPhones in installments, beginning on January 12.

The temporary government has introduced a groundbreaking plan, starting from January 12, 2024, where people can buy iPhones in installments.

Umar Saif, the Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology, shared the details of this partnership with telecom companies, a plan he first mentioned in October 2023.

He highlighted the need for such a program, acknowledging that while many people in Pakistan use mobile phones, the high cost of top-notch devices is too much for many.

Dr. Saif pointed out the goal of this new plan, which is to make it easy for individuals to get the latest smartphones through affordable installment options.

An interesting aspect is that iPhones are included in this plan. To make sure people stick to their installment payments, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will use the Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking Systems (DIRBS), possibly blocking phones if payments are missed.

Dr. Umar Saif stressed that this approach is meant to encourage responsible financial behavior while making smartphones accessible to people with different incomes.

Telecom companies will play a crucial role, offering smartphones directly to customers through structured installment plans, bringing the benefits of mobile broadband to lower-income groups.
