Alcohol store in Riyadh to be opened, Saudi Arabia makes a surprising move in diplomacy.

Saudi Arabia is planning to open Alcohol store in Riyadh, primarily catering to non-Muslim diplomats.

The store, located in Riyadh, will require customers to register through an app, obtain permission from the foreign ministry, and adhere to monthly quotas.

While situated in Riyadh’s diplomatic quarter, it’s unclear if the services will extend to non-Muslim expatriates.

This move aligns with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s efforts to modernize Saudi Arabia, known for its conservative interpretation of Islam.

Despite strict alcohol prohibitions with severe penalties, recent liberalization measures include relaxing restrictions on women, like allowing them to drive.

While alcohol is strictly banned, there’s an existing black market, and authorities sometimes overlook home brewing and alcohol in expatriate compounds.

Riyadh has witnessed the opening of bars offering non-alcoholic drinks, and future plans aim to introduce alcohol in the Neom beach resort, part of the Vision 2030 plan led by Crown Prince Mohammed to diversify the economy and attract foreign tourism and investment.
