Mahek Bukhari and her mother, Ansreen Bukhari, have been handed life sentences in prison for their involvement in a brutal double murder case.
Mahek Bukhari, a rising sensation on TikTok, had the unwavering support of her devoted mother as she embarked on her journey as an influencer. However, their lives took a tragic turn when a ill-fated romantic entanglement led to a series of events marked by deception, extortion, and, ultimately, a chilling homicide.
Mahek’s ascent to fame on TikTok was marked by her creative content and growing fanbase, all bolstered by her mother’s unwavering encouragement. But the arrival of a fateful affair introduced a sinister twist to their lives, leading them down a dark path of deceit and manipulation.
The tragic incident unfolded when Saqib Hussain and Hashim Ijazuddin, both 21 years old, lost their lives in a horrifying car crash during a high-speed pursuit in Leicestershire. The motive behind this gruesome event was rooted in a love triangle gone awry. Saqib Hussain had threatened to expose his affair with Ansreen, who was 46 at the time.
The Bukharis devised a plan to meet Saqib in a Tesco car park, promising to reimburse him £3,000 he had spent on Ansreen during their relationship. Their intention was to snatch Saqib’s phone, as they believed it contained explicit images of Ansreen that he planned to disclose.
However, matters took a violent turn when Saqib and his friend Hashim were ambushed by a group of masked individuals recruited by the Bukharis. The victims were thrust into a harrowing chase, reaching speeds of up to 90mph along the A46. Their vehicle careened out of control and collided with a tree, subsequently catching fire and claiming their lives.
Judge Timothy Spencer KC described the case as a “tale of love, obsession, and extortion,” unequivocally labeling it as “cold-blooded murder.” He emphasized the role of TikTok and Instagram in Mahek Bukhari’s life, where she had amassed a substantial following by sharing beauty and fashion advice.
Directing his comments to Mahek Bukhari, Judge Spencer criticized her “self-obsession” and “distorted values,” highlighting her apparent disregard for the consequences of her actions on others.
As Mahek Bukhari was escorted away to commence her life sentence, she sent a kiss to her father, who was present in the courtroom.
The judge also noted how Ansreen had been enticed by the “glamour” of her daughter’s social media career, which was a stark departure from her traditional role as a mother and homemaker.
The trial included emotional statements from the families of the victims, underscoring the profound impact of the incident on their lives. Sikandar Hayat, Mr. Ijazuddin’s father, expressed shock at the defendants’ failure to summon emergency services after the crash.
In addition to Mahek Bukhari and Ansreen Bukhari, their accomplices, Rekan Karwan and Raees Jamal, were also sentenced for their roles in the double murder. It’s worth noting that Raees Jamal was already serving a sentence for rape.
