The BBC is investigating of Russell Brand accused after an allegation made by a woman who claims that Russell Brand exposed himself to her and laughed about it on his Radio 2 show.
Russell Brand Accused Case
Brand, aged 48, has previously faced accusations of rape, sexual assault, and abuse from four other women. These alleged offenses occurred between 2006 and 2013. He has denied these claims, stating that his relationships were always consensual.
Subsequently, the Metropolitan Police revealed that it had received a sexual assault allegation against Brand dating back to 2003.
Brand’s latest accuser, who the BBC is calling ‘Olivia’ to protect her identity, Russell Brand accused of sexual misconduct in 2008. This is the first time he has been accused of such behavior and subsequently heard discussing it.
The incident has raised serious questions for the BBC because the part of the show in which Brand discussed it was pre-recorded but still aired just days later.
Olivia alleges that 15 years ago, Brand exposed himself to her in Los Angeles while she was working in the same building as the BBC. On June 16, 2008, she answered the door to Brand and his team, who were there to pre-record an episode of The Russell Brand Show for Radio 2. According to Olivia, while she was in the bathroom, she noticed Brand behind her, who said he wanted to have sex with her. She firmly said “no,” but Brand showed her his genitals, to which she again said “no.” Afterward, the bathroom door was shut with a “banging” noise, and someone said, “Russell, you are wanted in the radio studio.”
Olivia felt disgusted and texted a BBC employee about the incident. The employee informed her that Brand was talking about it in the studio. The radio episode aired on June 21, 2008, and featured an exchange between Brand and his colleague Matt Morgan, where they made inappropriate comments about the incident, with Brand apparently laughing in the recording.
Olivia, who was not a receptionist, was upset that the audio was not edited out. She never formally complained. BBC management was informed about the incident in 2019 but did not take formal action.
The BBC is now investigating the allegations of Russell Brand accused, and a spokesperson expressed regret about the allegations. They are conducting a review to understand what complaints were made at the time and what was known about Russell Brand’s conduct while working at BBC radio in 2008. Matt Morgan expressed his regrets about the impact of the show and condemned mistreatment of women.
