Lahore has been ranked as the most polluted city in the world for several consecutive days. On Wednesday morning, its Air Quality Index (AQI) reached a ‘Hazardous’ level of over 320.

According to IQAir, a Swiss air quality monitor, Lahore’s air quality was the worst globally on that Wednesday, with an AQI of 323, classified as ‘Hazardous.’ The concentration of PM2.5 (particulate matter) in the city was 54.5 times higher than the recommended WHO annual air quality guideline.

PM2.5 refers to tiny particles in the air, and it’s used to measure pollution levels indoors and outdoors.

In Lahore, the areas with the worst air quality included The Mall Road area with an AQI of 374, followed by the Lahore American School area and Polo Ground in Cantt making Lahore the most polluted city in the world.

Lahore’s air quality has consistently been unhealthy not only for the past few months but also in recent years, especially during the ‘fifth season’ of smog, which typically lasts from September to at least February.

2^nd Most Polluted City in the World

According to IQAir data, New Delhi, India, was the second most polluted city in the world with an air quality index of 210 (‘Very Unhealthy’), and Chengdu in China was the third most polluted city on Wednesday morning with an air quality index of 179, categorized as ‘Unhealthy.’
