Marlon Samuels Banned!:

The ICC has handed down a significant six-year ban to Marlon Samuels, the former West Indies cricketer, for violating the Anti-Corruption Code. The ban, effective as of November 11, 2023, stems from charges brought by the ICC in September 2021, resulting in Samuels being found guilty on four counts.

Samuels was found in breach of Article 2.4.2 for failing to disclose gifts, payments, hospitality, or benefits that could negatively impact his reputation or the sport. Furthermore, he violated Article 2.4.3 by not disclosing hospitality valued at $750 or more to the designated Anti-Corruption Official.

The unanimous decision by the ICC also determined his guilt under Article 2.4.6 for refusing to cooperate with the investigation and Article 2.4.7 for obstructing the designated Anti-Corruption Official’s inquiry by withholding crucial information.

Alex Marshall, who leads the ICC HR and Integrity Unit, underscored the importance of setting a precedent despite Samuels’ retirement. Marshall emphasized, “Samuels played international cricket for close to two decades, during which he participated in numerous anti-corruption sessions and knew exactly what his obligations were under the Anti-Corruption Codes.”

He further highlighted the significance of such actions as a deterrent, aiming to make participants think twice before violating the rules.
