The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made noteworthy changes in its cricketing structure by appointing former cricketers Kamran Akmal, Rao Iftikhar Anjum, and Salman Butt as chief selectors and consultants for Wahab Riaz.

Their primary responsibility will be to oversee the upcoming five-match T20 International (T20I) series in New Zealand, scheduled to commence on January 12. This series marks the trio’s inaugural assignment in their new roles within the PCB.

In addition to their selection duties, the three members will also assume supplementary responsibilities at the Skills Camp on days when they are not directly involved in the selection process. This dual role is designed to leverage their expertise beyond the selection table and contribute to the development of cricketing skills in a broader context.

Kamran Akmal boasts an impressive cricketing career, having represented Pakistan in 53 Tests, 157 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and 58 T20 Internationals (T20Is). His cumulative contributions across all three formats include 6871 runs and 453 catches/stumpings behind the wickets. Notably, Akmal played a pivotal role in Pakistan’s triumph at the 2009 T20 World Cup.

Rao Iftikhar Anjum, another member of the triumphant 2009 T20 World Cup team, has an international record that includes one Test, 62 ODIs, and 2 T20Is. Anjum has taken 78 wickets during his international career.

Former captain Salman Butt, with a rich cricketing history, has represented Pakistan in 33 Tests, 78 ODIs, and 24 T20 Internationals. His remarkable batting prowess has resulted in 5209 runs, including 11 centuries across all three formats. Like Akmal and Anjum, Butt was part of the victorious 2009 T20 World Cup-winning squad.

These seasoned cricketers bring a wealth of experience to their roles, and their collective expertise is expected to enhance the selection and coaching process for Pakistan cricket.
