The interim government has introduced the ‘Contract Based Smartphones Policy,’ starting from January 15.
Dr. Umar Saif, the Federal Caretaker Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, shared that under this policy, people traveling abroad can now acquire the latest smartphone models through installment plans.
The policy aims to encourage responsible financial behavior and support the ongoing increase in smartphone usage. To protect investors from defaults, measures such as blocking phones and potentially requiring a national identity card for defaulters will be in place. Dr. Saif stressed the need for a strong mechanism to ensure investor protection and policy success.
This policy is expected to bring a significant change to the telecom industry, allowing companies to offer smartphones directly to consumers with flexible installment options. This move is particularly beneficial for economically disadvantaged individuals, promoting increased mobile broadband usage.
