In discussions between the foreign ministers of Pakistan and Iran, both countries agreed to respect each other’s security and sovereignty. Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani, in a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart in Islamabad, emphasized the longstanding cultural, religious, and fraternal ties between the two nations. Various matters of mutual interest were addressed during the talks.
Jalil Abbas Jilani highlighted the significance of the strong relations between Iran and Pakistan for the development of both countries. He stressed the need for decisive actions and a robust strategy against terrorists. The caretaker foreign minister mentioned that a high-level agenda, beneficial for both Pakistan and Iran, was discussed, and an invitation was extended to the President of Iran to visit Pakistan immediately after the elections. This would establish a high-level consultative mechanism between the foreign ministers of both countries.
Iranian Foreign Minister Amir Abdullahian expressed the importance of fraternal relations with Pakistan and the significance of geographical ties. He emphasized considering the people of Iran and Pakistan as one nation. Abdullahian prioritized Pakistan’s security, acknowledging the damage caused by terrorists in both Iran and Pakistan. He assured that Iran and Pakistan will not give any chance to terrorists, recognizing them as a threat to the security of both nations due to their operations on the common border.
Amir Abdullahian stated that the security of Pakistan is perceived as the security of Iran and the region. He recognized the shared challenges of terrorism that have led to many casualties in both countries. Abdullahian highlighted that terrorists operating on the common border pose a threat to the security of both Pakistan and Iran, engaging in activities on behalf of third countries.
