One of the two missing fishermen has been found alive after their boat vanished off the Washington coast.

Two weeks ago one of the two missing fishermen was discovered alive in a life raft off the Washington coast, as per the US Coast Guard.

On October 26, a Good Samaritan ship found the missing fisherman approximately 70 miles (112 km) northwest of Cape Flattery.

The fisherman’s companion from the missing boat is still unaccounted for.

The boat had left Grays Harbor in Washington state on October 12, aboard a 43-foot vessel named “Evening.” It was expected to return on October 15, according to the Coast Guard.

One of the two missing fishermen was rescued and brought ashore and is reported to be in stable condition, according to the Coast Guard.

Although the rescuers were not named by officials, King-TV, an NBC affiliate, identified them as Ryan Planes and his uncle John from Sooke, a town on Vancouver Island in British Columbia.

Ryan Planes explained, “I noticed something that resembled a life raft in the distance and hurried inside to use binoculars to see him, and then he launched a flare.”

“We pulled him onboard. He gave me a big hug, and it was very emotional,” his uncle added.

The two missing fishermen, who were on a fishing trip with friends, stated that the fisherman told them he had been alone on the life raft for 13 days. He also mentioned that he had caught a salmon and consumed it to survive.

John said, “We made him breakfast. He drank three bottles of water. He was pretty hungry, poor guy.”

With the help of the Canadian Coast Guard, the fisherman was transported to a hospital in Tofino, a town on Vancouver Island, where he is recovering, according to King-TV.

The Coast Guard has stated that the incident is still under investigation.

Good Samaritans are private vessels that voluntarily assist injured or endangered individuals at sea without compensation, according to the Coast Guard’s website.
