Saudi Arabia is advising people not to join the Hajj pilgrimage in 2024 unless they have the right permits.
Performing Hajj without a permit is against the law and can lead to imprisonment and a fine of up to 50,000 Riyals for residents and foreigners.
The Saudi government stated that immigrants who break this rule could be jailed for six months and then deported for ten years. They will also be publicly named and shamed on media channels.
The Saudi Ministry of Interior says all pilgrims must have a government permit to enter holy places. These permits are easy to get through the website and app.
