Air India was fined Rs0.3 million because they didn’t have a wheelchair service.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) fined Air India Rs 30 lakhs because they didn’t have a wheelchair available for an 80-year-old passenger who collapsed and died after walking from the plane to the terminal at Mumbai airport.

The elderly man arrived on an Air India flight from New York with his wife and collapsed at Mumbai airport. He had to walk about 1.5 km from the plane to the immigration counter because there weren’t enough wheelchairs available.

Although the couple had requested wheelchairs in advance, only the wife received one.

As they reached the immigration counter, the man collapsed due to a heart attack.

An Air India spokesperson said that they had asked the passenger to wait for a wheelchair, but he chose to walk with his wife. He was immediately taken to the hospital after falling ill but unfortunately passed away.
