School winter holidays in KP has been prolonged until January 13.

Due to very cold weather and thick fog, the government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to extend the winter holidays for both government and private primary schools until January 13. This decision was shared by the Elementary and School Education Department of the province on Sunday.

According to the official announcement, all primary schools, whether private or government, ranging from playgroup to Class 5, will be closed until January 13. This is to ensure the safety and well-being of students during the harsh winter conditions.

Additionally, new timings have been introduced for middle/primary, high, and higher secondary schools, which include classes from 6 and above.

Under the updated timetable, middle, primary, and higher secondary schools will now be open from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, instead of the previous 8:30 am to 2:30 pm.

This new schedule is set to be in effect for a week, after which the schools will revert to the original timings, as stated in the notification.

The Meteorological Department has reported that the plain areas of the province, including Peshawar, are currently experiencing severe cold and fog, with temperatures dropping to 1 degree Celsius. Fog is expected to persist in Charsadda, Peshawar, Nowshera, and surrounding areas for the next few days.

In the past 24 hours, Peshawar recorded a minimum temperature of 1 degree Celsius and a maximum of 12 degrees.

Earlier, the interim government in Punjab had extended the school holidays for both private and public schools by an additional nine days. All educational institutions will now remain closed until January 9 and are scheduled to reopen on January 10.
