After a new government was formed and a new cabinet sworn in this week, it’s likely that prices of petrol and diesel will stay the same for the next two weeks starting March 16, 2024. This is partly because the cost of fuel in the global market hasn’t changed.
However, there might be a slight increase in petrol price by Rs1.07 per litre to Rs280.82 and a decrease in diesel price by Re0.82 per litre to Rs286.51. Kerosene price may also drop by Re0.94 per litre to Rs189.07.
The additional charges on petrol include Rs60 per litre as petroleum development levy (PDL), Rs5.69 per litre for internal freight equalization margin (IFEM), Rs7.87 per litre as oil marketing companies (OMCs) margin, and Rs8.64 per litre as dealers margin. Similarly, on diesel, Rs60 per litre is charged as PDL, with additional charges for IFEM, OMCs margin, and dealers margin.
Overall, while there might be slight changes, the government is likely to keep the petroleum prices steady for now.
