In Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, the interim government has given some good news to people struggling with petrol price. They’ve lowered the cost of petrol by 40 rupees per liter and high-speed diesel (HSD) by 15 rupees for the next two weeks.
The Ministry of Finance announced that the new petrol price is now 283.38 rupees, and for HSD, it’s 303.18 rupees. The government made these changes because the international prices for these fuels went up and the exchange rate got better.
These new petrol price start at midnight on October 16 and will be in effect until October 31.
New prices of petroleum products for the fortnight starting from October 16 will be as follow:
Products | Existing price | New price | decrease |
Petrol | 323.38 | 283.38 | -40 |
High Speed Diesel (HSD) | 318.18 | 303.18 | -15 |
Furthermore, the government also made the cost of light diesel 19.59 rupees cheaper for the next two weeks and reduced kerosene oil prices by 22.43 rupees. After these big changes, kerosene oil will be sold for 214.85 rupees per liter.
The interim government, led by Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, is not charging any general sales tax (GST) on all petroleum products, but they’re putting a 60 rupees levy on each liter of petrol.
To collect more money and meet their tax goals for this year, the government raised the levy on diesel by 5 rupees, making it 55 rupees per liter.
