Pakistan has asked China, its long-time friend, if they can extend the time to repay a $2 billion loan. Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar wrote a letter to Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang requesting a one-year extension for the $2 billion loan. The loan’s deadline is on March 23, 2024.
The Ministry of Finance and Chinese authorities are in contact to finalize the extension of the $2 billion loan. The caretaker prime minister expressed gratitude to China for the financial support, highlighting that China helped during a challenging economic period.
In the past, China provided a $4 billion loan to Pakistan, easing the pressure on external payments. Notably, the United Arab Emirates also recently extended a $2 billion loan for Pakistan.
