The IMF is willing to work with Pakistan’s new government. Julie Kuzek, The Communication director, mentioned in a media briefing her satisfaction with the caretaker government’s efforts in maintaining economic stability, controlling inflation, and increasing foreign exchange reserves through a strict monetary policy.
She also highlighted that on January 11, The Executive Board approved the first review of the Standby Arrangement, releasing $1.9 billion to Pakistan to support its economic stabilization efforts. Kuzek emphasized the program’s focus on protecting vulnerable groups and expressed optimism about collaborating with the new government to ensure macroeconomic stability and overall prosperity for Pakistani citizens.
Additionally, the founder chairman of PTI responded to a letter to the IMF, addressing allegations of election rigging and suggesting that any investigation into aid rigging should be contingent upon judicial oversight. The PTI chairman refrained from commenting on ongoing political issues.
It’s worth noting that PTI recently expressed opposition to future agreements with the IMF, arguing that the IMF should negotiate with legitimately elected governments rather than those accused of fraudulent practices.
