Acquiring the Vanguard armor set can be a bit tricky due to the intricate layouts of the game’s diverse areas. Here’s your guide to finding this sought-after armor.
The complete Vanguard armor set is available for purchase from Exacter Dunmire at Skyrest Bridge. However, Dunmire will only offer it in exchange for Vanguard Barros’ Rosary, an item hidden deep within the Forsaken Fen.
To obtain Vanguard Barros’ Rosary, players must first defeat the formidable Congregator of Flesh and reach the Fen waypoint within the Forsaken Fen. From there, continue along the main path until you encounter a section with a curving tree branch near a bonfire, guarded by Shuja warriors. Climb the branch and unlock the shortcut leading back to the Vestige, or plant a Vestige Seed in the nearby Umbral flower bed before pressing on.
Transition from the tree branch to the Umbral realm and follow the path indicated in the accompanying video. This path will lead you to a mini-boss arena where you’ll face off against the Mendacious Visage. Overcome this adversary, and then proceed to the elevated huts. In one of these huts, you’ll discover Vanguard Barros’ body, along with his precious rosary.
Once you’ve acquired the rosary, return it to Exacter Dunmire to expand his inventory, which now includes the highly sought-after Vanguard armor set. If you find that Dunmire’s shop isn’t updating or if he’s not offering his special dialogue regarding the Vanguard, try resting at the Visage or restarting the game. Bear in mind that this set comes with a considerable price tag, so make sure you have enough Vigor in your pocket to purchase the entire set at once.
The Vanguard armor set boasts a full plate armor ensemble with a fur cloak elegantly draping over the shoulders. While it’s only marginally superior to the Dark Crusader’s starting armor set, it provides significantly better protection compared to the default gear of other starting classes.
