During the first three months of this financial year, Pakistan earned $4,127.790 million by selling textile products to other countries. Textile export dropped by 9.95% less compared to the same period last year.
A report from the Bureau of Statistics reveals that between July and September 2023, the textile export was down by 9.95% when compared to July-September 2022. Some textile products, like raw cotton and cotton yarn, saw growth in their exports. For example, raw cotton exports increased by 12.08% from $5.908 million to $6.621 million. Cotton yarn exports also went up by 33.50%, from $236.263 million to $315.404 million.
However, certain textile goods experienced a decline in exports. Cotton cloth exports dropped by 18.15%, from $580.524 million to $475.187 million. Other yarns, excluding cotton, fell by 14.50%, from $11.808 million to $10.096 million. Exports of bedwear decreased by 10.02%, from $779.704 million to $701.571 million. Tent, canvas, and tarpaulin exports also declined by 8.24%, from $27.312 million to $29.766 million.
Additionally, textile export of art, silk, and artificial textiles dropped by 23.08%. Makeup articles exports decreased by 5.41%, going from $180.167 million to $170.422 million. Exports of all other textiles also went down.
On a positive note, the trade deficit shrank by 42.25% in the first quarter of this financial year compared to the same period last year. The trade deficit from July to September 2023 was $5.289 billion, while it was $9.159 billion during July-September 2022, showing a decline of 42.25%.
