New name of India is going to be set by Modi’s government. New Delhi: In a recent development, the Modi government has expressed its intention to modify the name of India to ‘Bharat’ within the state constitution. The proposal may be presented during the upcoming Parliament session, scheduled to take place from September 18 to 22.
According to Indian media reports, the change being considered would officially rename India as the ‘Republic of Bharat’ within the Indian Constitution. This initiative comes in response to a demand made by BJP Rajya Sabha member Naresh Bansal, who advocated for replacing ‘India’ with ‘Bharat,’ arguing that the term ‘India’ carries connotations of historical demographic subjugation.
In connection with this change, the President has extended an invitation for a dinner gathering at Rashtrapati Bhavan to the G20 delegation, with the invitation referring to the ‘President of Bharat’ instead of the previous ‘President of India’ designation.
