The investigation committee has begun looking into the allegations of election rigging made by the former Commissioner of Rawalpindi.
According to sources, the Election Commission’s high-level investigation committee has initiated an inquiry into the claims made by former commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatta. The committee has requested the transcript of Liaquat Chatta’s press conference from Pemra.
Reports indicate that six District Returning Officers from Rawalpindi Division have provided written statements denying the allegations made by the former commissioner.
Additionally, statements from Returning Officers of 13 constituencies of the National Assembly and 26 constituencies of the Provincial Assembly in Rawalpindi Division will be recorded by the committee.
Former Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatta announced his resignation two days ago, admitting to irregularities in the general elections. During a press conference at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Chatta confessed to manipulating election results, changing the outcomes for certain candidates. He accepted responsibility for election rigging and surrendered to the police, resigning from his position. Chatta stated that he should be punished for his actions with the death penalty in Rawalpindi’s Kachhari Chowk.
