Election rigging: The Commissioner of Rawalpindi, Liaquat Ali Chatta, stepped down from his position.

Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatta of Rawalpindi has stepped down from his role due to accusations of election rigging in the 2024 general elections.

In his resignation statement, Liaquat Chatta admitted to feeling ashamed of his duties during the elections, even suggesting he deserves a death sentence for his actions. He recounted witnessing fellow officers in distress and confessed to contemplating suicide after morning prayers.

Chatta revealed that he and others manipulated election results, leading to the defeat of 13 elected members of the National Assembly from Rawalpindi division. He expressed deep remorse for his actions and urged for punishment.

He apologized to the returning officers for his wrongdoing and implicated Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja in the election fraud.
