Bangladesh cricket team captain Shakib-ul-Hasan secured a significant win in the recent parliamentary elections, earning him a seat as a Member of Parliament. Representing the Awami League, the party led by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid, Shakib-ul-Hasan won in the Magura constituency by an impressive margin of over 150,000 votes.
The 36-year-old all-rounder, who currently captains all three formats of the Bangladesh cricket team, expressed some challenges during the election campaign but ultimately emerged victorious. District Chief Administrator Abu Nasir Baig confirmed Shakib’s triumph, describing it as a great victory.
Despite his success in politics, Shakib has not retired from cricket and continues to lead the national team in all formats while holding the top spot in the ICC rankings for all-rounders.
In the broader context of Bangladesh’s general elections, Sheikh Hasina Wajid’s Awami League secured a substantial victory, positioning them to form the government. The opposition parties chose to boycott the elections, leading to Awami League’s significant success. With this victory, the likelihood of Sheikh Hasina Wajid becoming the Prime Minister of Bangladesh for the fifth time has increased.
