PML-N ignores Senate resolution, insists on holding elections as planned.

A day after the Senate suggested delaying elections and caused a commotion in the country, PML-N ignores Senate resolution. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb stated that the polls would take place as scheduled, regardless of who supported the resolution.

Speaking to the media after appearing in an anti-terrorism court in Lahore on Saturday, the former information minister mentioned that PML-N was the sole party opposing the resolution.

Marriyum affirmed, “Elections will be on February 8, even if other parties protest.” She also alleged that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the rival party, was behind the resolution.

According to Marriyum, PTI had a plan, starting with approaching the Lahore High Court (LHC) and then introducing the resolution in the Senate.

She criticized PTI for creating disturbances outside the assembly after remaining quiet inside. In a warning to PTI’s founding chairman Imran Khan, she cautioned against issuing threats from jail.

Marriyum emphasized that the Pakistani people desire elections and claimed that PTI won’t win votes. She mentioned that PML-N’s schedule for public gatherings would be decided next week.

Her discussion mainly focused on the Senate’s non-binding resolution for a delay in the general elections, passed with the presence of only 14 senators out of 100.

PTI’s Senator Gurdeep Singh and Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Behramand Tangi abstained from voting, leading to the adjournment of the session. Both lawmakers received notices from their parties for their conduct during the session.
