The process of repatriating Afghan residing unlawfully in various cities of the country is ongoing. Official records indicate that on December 18, over 1,500 Afghans returned to their country, with 73 families repatriated using 65 vehicles.
It is noteworthy that even before Pakistan’s official announcement, a significant number of undocumented Afghans had been returning to Afghanistan from Pakistan to avoid potential arrest. However, as per official data on December 18, the total number of Afghans returning to their country exceeded 438,000.
It’s important to highlight that, akin to other parts of the country, Karachi had a substantial population living illegally. Illegal activities such as smuggling and extortion were prevalent in Karachi due to the presence of undocumented foreigners. Fortunately, the government of Pakistan, in collaboration with military leadership, is actively engaged in the joint efforts to evacuate illegal individuals from the country.
