The forthcoming India-Pakistan T20 World Cup promises an exciting spectacle as India and Pakistan prepare to engage in a face-off at a temporary stadium on the outskirts of New York, marking the first such encounter in this location.
This clash is anticipated to be a focal point during the initial group stage of the tournament, jointly hosted by the United States and the West Indies, as reported by The Guardian. The decision to have ten teams play their opening group-stage matches in the U.S. aims to leverage the sizable expatriate cricket-loving communities in the country.
While adjustments to the schedule may still occur, it is confirmed that England and Australia will play all their group-stage matches in the Caribbean. England’s matches, both in the initial five-team group and, if they progress, in the Super 8 round, are scheduled for Barbados, St Lucia, and Antigua, popular British tourist destinations. Meanwhile, Australia will compete in other regional venues, including St Vincent, Guyana, and Trinidad.
Recent inspections by ICC officials in the Caribbean have identified the need for some improvements and expansions, but no significant issues have been uncovered so far. Although the final venue is yet to be officially confirmed, Barbados is likely to host it, given its past hosting of the finals for the 2007 50-over World Cup and the 2010 T20 event.
Cricket enthusiasts worldwide are eagerly anticipating this tournament, anticipating a showcase of thrilling matches and intense competition. In the U.S., three venues will host the cricket event: Central Broward Park in Florida, Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas, and Eisenhower Park on Long Island. Notably, a temporary 34,000-seat stadium will be erected in New York, a city with a significant Indian and Pakistani population.
Organizers have accommodated the global audience by scheduling certain games, especially those involving India, with morning starts to align with Indian television audiences, considering the 10-and-a-half-hour time difference between New York and New Delhi.
England, the reigning champions, have gained valuable insights into the playing conditions by participating in Antigua, Barbados, and St Lucia. Their return in June will mark their first match in St Lucia since 2019.
